Rune Leicht Lund (b. 2003) is a young Danish pianist with an active career as a soloist and chamber musician. He has received numerous awards at national and international piano competitions and is among the finalists in the prestigious Franz Liszt Piano Competition in Utrecht 2025/2026.
Rune won his first international competition at the age of 10. In October 2021, he was awarded 3rd prize at the 10th International Franz Liszt Piano Competition in Weimar/Bayreuth, as well as a special prize for the best interpretation of Franz Liszt’s Sonata in B minor and a special prize for the best interpretation of a classical sonata (Beethoven’s Waldstein Sonata, Op. 53). In August 2023, he won 3rd prize at the 12th International Rosario Marciano Piano Competition in Vienna.
Rune has performed as a soloist and chamber musician at festivals and in concert halls across numerous countries, including Konzerthaus Berlin, Rheingau Musik Festival, Laeiszhalle Hamburg, Tivoli Concert Hall, and DR Concert Hall. At age 12, he made his debut as a soloist with Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No. 2 - first with Randers Chamber Orchestra, and later with the Aarhus Symphony Orchestraand the Danish National Symphony Orchestra in Copenhagen. Since then, he has performed as a soloist with, among others, the Staatskapelle Weimar, the Toruń Symphony Orchestra (Poland), and the Odense Symphony Orchestra.
Rune has received instruction and participated in masterclasses with a wide range of international pianists and educators, including Eugen Indjic, Kevin Kenner, Andrzej Jasiński, Ewa Pobłocka, Tatiana Zelikman, Lilya Zilberstein, and Leslie Howard. In the summer of 2021, he was awarded a full scholarship to the Vienna Summer School organized by the International Lieven Piano Foundation.
After studying at Klaverskolen Gradus with Martin Lysholm Jepsen, Rune moved to Vienna in February 2020, where he completed his bachelor’s degree in February 2025 at the Musik und Kunst Privatuniversität der Stadt Wien (MuK) under Professor Jura Margulis. Since then, he has attended courses with Professor Julia Mustonen-Dahlkvist at Ingesund School of Music in Sweden, where he will begin his master’s studies under her guidance in the fall of 2025.
Rune receives support from the Jacob Gade Foundation and the Betty and Valdemar van Hauen Foundation. At the latter foundation’s award ceremony in Tivoli Concert Hall on June 1, 2022, he performed as a soloist in Mozart’s Piano Concerto No. 9, Jeunehomme.
